Probationary Periods

TEAMS employees serve a six-month probationary period upon hire at the University of Florida, unless their probationary periods are extended.

Probationary periods can be extended in three-month intervals, up to a maximum of 12 months in total.

Six Month Checklist for TEAMS Probationary Periods

This document outlines best practices for on-boarding your new employee, beginning on day one. Since it’s not always immediately clear how a new hire will perform—or whether they may need additional support—it’s essential to start strong.

This guide includes a checklist to help you set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and build a productive working relationship from the start—all key steps to setting your employee up for success. It also offers suggested questions for weekly check-in meetings and serves as a tool to help you assess progress and determine whether additional support or an extension of the probationary period may be appropriate.

Submitting Three- and Six-Month Probation Check-Ins for Leaders

Probationary employees will receive UF Engaged Check-ins at their mid-point (3-months) and at the end of their probationary period (6-months); if the probationary period has been extended, additional probationary Check-ins will happen and 9-months and 12 months, as appropriate.  During the probationary period, leaders are required to work with their Employee Relations Office for Probationary Extensions.
