Template Tips and Guidelines
This sections offers tips and guidelines for using our templates, including:
Prepare your content
We recommend drafting and editing your content in Microsoft Word before adding it into PowerPoint. Try to keep each section 200 words and under.
You can find a helpful tutorial on the do’s and don’t of poster design here.
Format your poster
Each poster layout’s columns are built in the slide master with sample text added in formatted text boxes. To modify these columns, enter slide master view to adjust the layout to your liking. Learn how to Customize a PowerPoint Slide Master here.
Do not make font sizes any smaller than the minimum indicated in the template. Smaller font sizes are difficult to read, especially at a distance. If you are having trouble fitting your content, focus on editing text over design by asking yourself:
- What information is most essential to the reader?
- Can you use bulleted lists instead of paragraphs?
To ensure your text matches our styles, you may use the format painter tool or reference table in document.
- Our template uses UF Brand fonts in the Gentona family available to download here with a UF GatorLink.
- While these fonts are recommended, your may customize your posters font. Sans serif fonts like Arial are best for posters.
The University and HOBI logo are included on our designs. Avoid adding too many additional logos. If you need to add additional logos, try to find ones with a transparent or white background.
Change your poster’s dimensions
If you need to change the size of your poster design, navigate to the “Design” tab, select “Slide Size,” and change the custom dimension dimensions. When prompted, select “Ensure Fit”. A full tutorial for changing your slide’s dimensions can be found here.
