These professorships honor outstanding researchers at the university who have been nominated by their department. Manini is a professor in the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics.

The three-year award provides a stipend and encourages advanced research. Manini specializes in geriatric medicine and mobility research, and he leads two of the university’s centers dedicated to healthy aging: the Institute for Aging, and the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center.

His nomination came from department chair Elizabeth Shenkman, Ph.D., who noted Manini’s expertise in mobility decline, muscle loss, and technology for aging research.

“He is unquestionably among the leading investigators nationally working at the intersection of aging biology, physical function, and clinical intervention science,” Shenkman wrote.
