A hybrid event on November 21 at UF will demonstrate and explore “The New World of Work.” The 2024 Fall Institute of the Gator Business Administrator Services (GBAS) is a free event for current UF employees.
We are encouraging all HOBI staff members to register for the afternoon session with HOBI’s own Janet Brishke, the manager of the Florida KidCare evaluation team in the Institute of Child Health Policy. Her presentation at 1 p.m. is titled “Avoiding OnBOREDing: Designing Engaging, Effective Onboarding for New Hires.” Choose to register for either the Virtual Session (by November 15) or the In-Person Session (by November 8), located in Emerson Alumni Hall.
This session shares a practical approach to creating a structured, engaging, and adaptable onboarding process that keeps new hires motivated and avoids the pitfalls of a “one-day orientation.” With insights from personal experience in course design, the session explores a customizable Canvas course, a progressive daily schedule that builds skills over time, and activities to keep the process enjoyable. By offering a flexible and sustained onboarding experience, busy leaders can streamline training while helping new employees feel truly welcomed and prepared to thrive.
Morning of Institute
The institute’s morning session begins at 8:30 a.m. and features Tara Blythe, the Chief People Officer at Infotech, a software developer. Register for her presentation on “Winning the War of Productivity: Bridging AI and Human-Centered Leadership to Cultivate an Agile Workforce in the Age of Digital Transformation.” Choose either the Virtual Morning Session, or the In-Person Morning Session. Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.
You must complete a separate registration for the morning session and the afternoon session, and you may mix your choices of virtual or in-person. Question about registration may be directed to Shannon Powell at shannon.powell@ufl.edu.
